Apple confirmed this week that it will finally add a USB-C port to the iPhone. Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of global marketing, confirmed to Wall Street Journal correspondent Joanna Stern that a USB-C port will be available. This week at the WSJ Tech Live conference, Joswiak said, "Governments should do what they do." We don't have a choice."
Obviously, Apple was not very happy with this decision. It's a change the company has resisted for years. Apple's core business principle is to control every part of its product line. That's why the company has moved from Intel chips to its own silicon and doubled down on its streaming offerings. The goal is to ensure that our customers are always protected by Apple. Having your own iPhone charger is another part of this strategy. This means iPhone users will have to purchase this charging cable directly from Apple rather than paying another USB-C cable manufacturer.
